ENVIRONMENT CONSERVATION

ENVIRONMENT CONSERVATION
 By Ouko Kevin Odhiambo

Conservation of environment simply implies the sustainable use as well as management of natural resources which include wildlife, water, air and earth deposits. Conservation of natural resources generally focuses on the needs and interests of human beings, for instance the biological, economic, cultural and recreational values. Certain approaches are necessary for environmental conservation.
In industrial countries, voluntary environmental agreements often provide a platform for companies to be recognized for moving beyond the minimum regulatory standards and thus support the development of best environmental practice. The key advantage of their use in developing countries is that they use help to build environmental management capacity.
An ecosystem approach to resource management and environmental protection aims to consider the complex interrelationships of entire ecosystem in decision making rather than simply responding to specific issues and challenges. This approach ideally supports a better exchange of information, development of conflict-resolution strategies and improved regional conservation.
The planet’s climate is known to go through cycles and change dramatically in the past. This is primarily a result of human activities. To reverse the threatening climate change, countries need to adopt more rigorous environmental laws that will protect the wildlife, reduce deforestation, prevent natural systems from replenishing and at the same time urge the people to take action themselves.
Conservation of the environment is not a Sisyphus task, as it seems, we are not helpless. People have the power to change the world if they want to and make our environment a better place.
